Transcendental

Written by

In modern terms, the transcendental refers to the invisible rules or “hardware” that must be in place before a person can have an experience. For example, where neuroscience is concerned, the trancendental represents the physical and functional structure of the brain—the biological “hardware” that serves as the necessary condition for any experience to occur. This framework provides the pre-installed “operating system” that dictates how we organize reality before we even encounter it. In contrast, the empirical refers to the sensory input and raw data, such as light or sound, that is processed through this hardware.
